On November 26, 2019, the Association for the Development of Logistics Alliance Germany (Förderverein LAG e.V.) held its annual network meeting in Berlin, hosted together with association member Konrad Zippel Spedition GmbH and CO. KG. The meeting was held in the Westhafen premises of BEHALA - Berliner Hafen- und Lagerhausgesellschaft mbH and on the company’s seminar ship.

Around 70 individuals were in attendance. An information event provided the opportunity to learn about potential applications of alternative propulsion systems in logistics and terminal operations. Attendees could also view electric vehicles used at BEHALA and a CNG truck and CNG filling station from the Zippel forwarding company.

Steffen Bilger, Parliamentary Secretary for the Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and government coordinator for freight transport and logistics, welcomed the guests on the seminar ship after the tour and provided insights into the current connections between German transport policy and the logistics industry. He was joined by Marc Oedekoven, Chairman of the Board of the Förderverein LAG e.V., and Axel Kröger, host and managing partner of Konrad Zippel Spediteur GmbH & Co. KG.

In the two presentations that followed, the attendees of the network meeting got to know current applications and projects for vehicles using alternative drive technologies. Björn Tiemann, Head of Finance at Spedition Zippel, spoke about the steps leading to integration of CNG trucks and CNG filling stations into logistics operations, focusing in particular on the environmental benefits of these vehicles. Klaus-Günter Lichtfuß, Head of Logistics at BEHALA, presented BEHALA projects that use alternative propulsion technologies within ports, providing examples of road, rail, and inland waterway transport.

Each annual network meeting of the Logistics Alliance Germany is hosted by a different member of the association, with one central theme every time.

Thank you to Konrad Zippel Spedition GmbH and CO. KG and BEHALA - Berliner Hafen- und Lagerhausgesellschaft mbH for their support in the planning and implementation of this year’s meeting!
