Great interest in the German-Polish Logistics Forum 2020

A popular side event to the annual TransLogistica Poland in Warsaw during a regular year, LAG had to change the format to a pure digital event in 2020. The German-Polish Logistics Forum was organized as an online conference, and took place on November 23 from 3:00–5:00 p.m, focussing on: “German-Polish Partnerships! Logistics Networks – Transport Corridors – Infrastructure.”

More than 230 registered participants mostly from Poland and Germany attended the German-Polish Logistics Forum 2020 on November 25, 2020. A great success. After the cancellation of the TransLogistica trade fair at the beginning of November 2020 due to Corona, the Logistics Alliance Germany (LAG) had decided to hold the popular conference as a purely digital event for the first time.

The focus of the event, entitled "German-Polish Cooperation: Logistics Networks,Transport Corridors, Infrastructure: Challenges and Approaches" was the pandemic-related adjustments that companies had to flexibly adapt to in 2020 in order to successfully navigate through the crisis. Many good examples were named by the speakers.

Frank Huster, Chief Executive Officer of the Bundesverband Spedition und Logistik e. V. (DSLV), spoke about the great importance of trade relations between the two countries and the Green Lane Policy adopted by the EU to avoid Covid-19-related obstructions at the borders. The Polish CLIP Group, which specializes in combined transport, reported on additional storage or buffer areas for products that could no longer be delivered due to the pandemic and additional rail connections when, for example, truck drivers could not be sent abroad. The Port of Hamburg reported that it was possible to increase the share of rail in Port of Hamburg traffic. Interrail Europe GmbH and Kilargo, one of Europe's largest ice cream producers, referred to difficulties for the logistics sector resulting from political developments. Kilargo therefore relies on less packaging from China, for example, in order to become less dependent on raw materials from this region.

The event, hosted by Steffen Bilger MdB, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, helped to illustrate how the challenges posed by the pandemic can be met and how cooperation between German and Polish logistics companies can be strengthened - even away from the roads, which continue to bear the brunt of freight transport.
