German-French Logistics Workshop in Marseille Leads To Intensive Dialogue

During a two-day workshop, German and French logistics experts discussed possibilities for cross-border transport as well as obstacles that still need to be overcome. One focal topic was combined transport as a link between seaports and hinterlands. Representatives from the port industry of Marseille Fos, the rail freight sector, and the petrochemical industry presented their services and spoke with German workshop participants on development opportunities, expectations, and current hurdles. Also discussed were future steps in order to maximize the potential of transnational transport axes and achieve greater volumes. The result of the workshop was not only significant gains in mutual understanding, but also the pinpointing of concrete approaches for intensified cooperation and the building of numerous new bilateral contacts.

The invitation to Marseille came from Union maritime et fluvial (UMF), the French association for maritime and inland river transport. This follow-up event was jointly organized by LAM France, the port of Marseille Fos, and the Provence CCI Chamber of Industry and Commerce, in cooperation with Logistics Alliance Germany (LAG).

A subsequent event is tentatively scheduled to take place in Germany in September, which logistics providers and shipping agents will be invited to attend.

The close partnership between UMF and LAG reaches back to June 2017, with the initial meeting taking place during an LAG delegation trip to France. That October, the first workshop on advancing German-French logistics partnerships was held in Berlin.
